Wednesday Words of Wisdom

These wise words by Neil Gaiman make so much sense to me, it’s only through making mistakes that we learn…  Continue reading

“It snowed last year too: I made a snowman and my brother knocked it down and I knocked my brother down and then we had tea.”

Wednesday Words of Wisdom

“You can’t be blocked if you just keep writing words. Any words. People who get blocked make the mistake of thinking they have to be good words.” ~ Martha Grimes

This is what NaNoWrimo is all about, getting words down on paper. That shitty first draft. It doesn’t have to make sense nor does it need to look pretty. My mantra is ‘just write’. The story arrives much later.

Wednesday Words of Wisdom: Imagination

Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality

I’m a bit of a fan of quotes from Alice in Wonderland…this one seems very apt in these strange times when nothing is certain. Give me imagination and the ability to create a world I’d prefer to live in any day than the reality. It’s only now I understand why my grandmother preferred her rose tinted glasses. And this could be Pootie on a bad day!

Wednesday Word of Wisdom

I often feel as though I’m living in an alternative world. Simon knows only too well, poor thing.

Les Miserables is one of my favourite shows (alongside The Phantom of the Opera) so much so, I  watched it three times on the stage in the UK. One of the things I miss being over here, is being able to go to the theatre. A real treat, though to be fair, the outdoor summer season which include operas at the Sferisterio in Macerata are brilliant! One day, I’ll go to Verona, now that would be something.

Wednesday Words of Wisdom – Margaret Atwood

“A word after a word after a word is power.”
~ Margaret Atwood

Tiny baby steps, one after the other makes progress it’s true. Been loving the series The Handmaids Tale, bet the book is even better, but so near to reality very scary indeed.

“A good decision is based on knowledge and not on numbers.”

And my Word of the week to try and weave into my writing (though I can hardly say it never mind use it) has to be:

Quixotic adj. 1. Idealistic without regard to practicality; impractical. 2. Impulsive: tending to act on whims or impulses.
